Dive Training
Have you always wanted to get certified or to finish your scuba training in the islands? Culebra Divers instructors hold professional ratings with DAN, PADI, SDI, and SSI.

You’ll complete your studies online prior to arrival and we’ll take care of all your dives. For those looking to complete the last portion of their certification, we’ll ask you to send your referral paperwork in advance so we can assist you in getting those final dives scheduled!
Culebra Divers also provides certified divers with a “Scuba Tune-up” to get you back in the swing of things if you’ve been out of the water for a while. Anyone not diving for 2 or more years is strongly recommended to take the time to refresh your skills. Don’t let all your training slip away!
- All necessary gear, tanks, and weights. All you need is a bathing suit!
- Water (PLEASE bring a water bottle if you’re able as Culebra has no recycling program for plastics. If you cannot, we have a reusable collapsible souvenir water bottle for you to take home with you)
- Snacks (please exercise caution if you have any food allergies)
- Outdoor heated fresh water shower complete with reef safe shampoo/conditioner
- Rinse tank, hangers, drying rack, and secure storage for any personal gear items
- Bathroom/changing room on site

- A maximum of 6 divers on board (our morning tour is dedicated to divers only, our afternoon tour can accommodate divers/snorkelers)
- Visibility averages 60 feet
- Water temperature range is 81 plus/minus a few degrees
- Boat rides to/between sites are usually under 20 minutes
- Current is generally mild
- Gear is donned in a seated position (we do the heavy lifting)

- PLEASE bring a water bottle if you’re able as Culebra has no recycling program for plastics. If you cannot, we have a reusable collapsible souvenir water bottle for you to take home with you.
- We provide wetsuits and our boat has a covered cabin so sunscreen is typically not required. If you do prefer to use sunscreen, we ask that you please use ocean-friendly sunscreen. We are proud to be an eco-friendly operator, and are asking you to help by not using sunscreens that contain oxybenzone, homosalate, octinoxate, octocrylene, or nano zinc, among others. For a complete list, click here. These ingredients have been proven to hurt our reefs. You can learn more by reading this article released by NOAA. Please DO NOT trust a brand just because it claims to be ocean-friendly. Do your part to be an educated consumer, and read the ingredients on your products. We proudly stand behind products like Stream2Sea, whose sunscreens are safe for our ocean. We stock Stream2Sea in our store for your convenience and for the health of our waters. If you are not sure if your sunscreen is safe, please feel free to ask us!
Open Water Certification
You come prepared by completing the course material at home via online eLearning and let us take care of the rest. Just click the Purchase Training + eLearning Package button below to get started TODAY! After booking, you will receive a follow-up email from us with the information you need to register and start your course. After completing your studies we will teach you the in-water portions of your dive training in Culebra. When purchasing you will be asked to select your 4 training afternoons. Our minimum age to participate in training with Culebra Divers is twelve (12), please note our smallest BCD has a minimum height and weight for the participant of 5’0″ (152 cm) and 99 lbs (45 kg).
If pressed for time, the Scuba Diver Certification is a subset of the Open Water Certification, requiring just 3 afternoons for $375 + eLearning fees. We generally do not recommend the lower certification as the time and cost savings are minimal, it imposes depth restrictions/ supervision requirements, and the certification may expire. Please email us directly if you prefer this option.

Please Note
- Certification isn’t purchased, it is earned. Most scuba students master the required skills in the above mentioned days. However, for students who find the requirements too challenging, Culebra Divers is pleased to offer additional instructor time within a 12-month period at no additional cost. We will also provide paperwork so that you can continue your training at another location if that better suits your needs. There are no refunds on training once it has begun so if you have any questions, please contact us before signing up.
Open Water Referral Dives
Already completed your coursework and confined water dives with SDI, SSI, PADI, NAUI, etc. and want to finish your training in Culebra’s warm, crystal clear, waters? We are ready for you! When purchasing you will be asked to select your 2 training afternoons.
You will need to email your referral information to us as soon as you are done with your confined water training, no less than 1 week prior to your arrival. You also must bring your referral paperwork and a recent, signed medical form from your original dive shop or instructor. Not having this required paperwork could keep you from being able to train so please get the information in early.

Scuba Refresher Course
Been awhile since you have been diving or just want to refresh your skills? Select the “Scuba Tune-up” Add-On when booking your morning or afternoon tour. We’ll have you arrive early and get you refreshed.
We require that you participate in a Scuba Refresher course or show proof of a recent refresher if you have not been diving within the last two (2) years. The refresher can be incorporated into either our 1-tank afternoon or 2-tank morning tours where we will reintroduce you to the gear, review dive safety concepts, basic skills, hand signals, work on your buoyancy, and get you tuned-up and ready to go!
If it has been 5 or more years since your last dive, we ask that you book the 1-tank afternoon tour for your tune-up.

SDI eLearning Fees FREE
Your eLearning is FREE though our preferred scuba training agency Scuba Diving International (SDI).
If you’d prefer SSI or PADI eLearning, please choose the base Add-On when booking and email us your preference so we can invoice you for the additional eLearning fees ($45 or $85 respectively as of March 2026). Pricing does not include taxes

Advanced Open Water
You come prepared by completing the course material at home via online eLearning and let us take care of the rest. Just click the Purchase Training + eLearning Package below to get started TODAY! After booking, you will receive a follow-up email from us with the information you need to register and start your course. After completing your studies we will teach you the in-water portions of your dive training in Culebra. When purchasing you will be asked to select your 2 training days (you will complete the 5 training dives across two of our morning 2-tank tours and one afternoon or night 1-tank). Our minimum age to participate in Advanced Open Water training with Culebra Divers is twelve (12).

You and your instructor will work together to select the remaining dives from a long list of specialties including: Boat, Marine Ecosystems Awareness, Night/Limited Visibility*, Search & Recovery, Wreck*, etc. (* = availability based on conditions). We ask that you please complete ALL eLearning modules as particular electives cannot be guaranteed and the whole point of the Advanced class is to expand your knowledge beyond what you learned in Open Water.

- Generally we conduct this course on both the morning and afternoon tour. Special times: 8am – 1pm and 1:30-4:30pm. Please keep both dates you choose open morning and afternoon. To get the best training experience possible, schedules may be adjusted at your Instructor’s discretion.
Continuing Your Education
Go beyond Advanced Open Water and achieve the next level of certification:
- Rescue Diver (Course Pricing $450 per Person, in addition to the $157.50 eLearning fee, First Aid/CPR required, Oxygen administration strongly recommended). When purchasing you will be asked to select your 3 training afternoons.

Become a Dive Professional!
- Divemaster (Contact us for pricing and scheduling options). Prerequisites: Rescue Diver, 40 logged dives, CPR and First Aid certification within 24 months required. Estimated duration: 14 days
Culebra Divers is also proud to offer DAN Training. Modules include:
- GOOD – Basic Life Support: CPR and First Aid (meets the requirement for the Rescue Diver certification)
- BETTER – Above plus Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries (strongly recommended for Rescue Divers)
- BEST – Diving First Aid for Professional Divers – this course combines the first two modules and includes additional training for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (HMLI) and Neurological Assessment
