Culebra is an enchanting Spanish Virgin Island located approximately 17 miles east of mainland Puerto Rico and 12 miles west of St. Thomas. The island is around 15 square miles in size and home to approximately 2,000 local residents. Culebra boasts an intricate shoreline with cliffs, sandy coral shores and mangroves; with numerous cays surrounding it, and the Luis Peña Channel Natural Reserve. The island of Culebra is semi-arid with no fresh water streams and therefore, no surface run off. Because of this, the ocean visibility is among the clearest in the world, making for some of the best snorkeling and SCUBA diving. Culebra has many beautiful beaches, many of which are protected and therefore nearly waveless. Flamenco Beach, the most popular, is also rated one of the world’s best. Paradise is found!
Culebra Divers has operated in Culebra since 1987. We are a small company and our sincere goal is to provide you with a great experience, lots of fun memories, and excellent customer service.
Culebra Divers is a fully insured PADI 5 Star Dive Center and the only dive operator in Culebra endorsed by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. We are an authorized ScubaPro, H2Odyssey, TUSA, and Trident dealer.
We offer guided snorkel, certified, and non-certified excursions. All our tours are guided by our Instructors who look forward to finding great stuff to show you. We have many sites that are perfect for snorkelers and non-certified divers as well as over 50 dive sites to choose from, most less than 30 minutes from the dock. We choose the dive sites each morning according to the divers’ level of training as well as weather and sea conditions. Our groups are always small (6 passengers max per boat) which means you always get personalized care and attention from the crew. We care about your comfort!
The Culebra Dive Team
Trevor Cooke originally hails from smalltown USA so feels right at home here in Culebra. He has a master’s degree in Physics and spent 20+ years as a contractor for a science and technology company before he and Heather opted for a change of pace. Trevor was introduced to diving by his brother in 2001 and it immediately became his passion. Trevor is a United States Coast Guard licensed Captain, a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, and holds additional instructor and specialty ratings with SDI and DAN.
Heather Cooke learned to dive in 2001 and since then diving has become an integral part of her life. She is a graduate from George Mason University in Conservation Biology. A United States Coast Guard licensed Captain, Heather is also an Assistant Instructor with PADI and SDI. When not at the shop, Heather enjoys reading, gardening, and playing with the many foster kitties the family works with. As the manager of Culebra Divers with 17+ years of diving and dive industry experience under her belt, Heather looks forward to encouraging more people to immerse themselves in the beautiful island of Culebra and all the fabulous diving it has to offer!
“Nika,” a 25 foot Trojan and “Nika II,” a 25 foot C Hawk, are both customized and streamlined dive boats. Both vessels are DRNA inspected and approved for safety. Whether diving or snorkeling, each boat provides comfortable and shaded seating for each passenger. Both are equipped with 225hp Four Stroke Yamaha engines (no diesel fumes!) to provide quick rides to our many dive and snorkel sites.
